How classy can our forum members get?
Classier than a Bespoken suite from a Saville Road Tailor? Classier than the hotel room in Hotel Chevalier? Classier than Humphrey Bogart dating Lauren Bacall? Probably not, but this dock by imageblender makes for some pretty classy wood. The trim of glossy white or black reminds me of expensive furniture, and it comes off as more reflective than the wood which gives it a nice counterbalance. Download from our forums.

Regular member ve has released a sleek new icon set that looks so nice you’ll forget about hitting the sack. The aptly named Black System contains enough black icons to cover your whole system and then some, as this set comes with 56 application icons from Address Book to VLC, all of which look good on a light, colorful background, as suggested by ve. Head over to the forums to give ‘er a download and black out your system.

Okay sneaker freaks, here’s one for you. If you’re the sort who buys a shoe two sizes too big and drops several hundred bucks on it because it’s rare— and will there after sit in your closet in pristine condition nestled lovingly in its Nike, Adidas, or Pumas shoe box— you will appreciate this icon set, if not this run-on sentence. Available in our forums is the shoebox collection, ready to sit on your desktop where you can pretend it holds a pair of limited edition 35th anniversary City Series Adidas Kicks.

Many years ago I went to a party in the house of a gent that liked to collect road signage. Stop signs, school crossing signs, and I recall he seemed particularly proud of the dead end sign he’d hung on his bathroom door. I’m sure that if he were a MacThemes reader he’d be getting that warm fuzzy feeling about “WORK !”. It’s fortunate that this release is a free download and he doesn’t have to sneak around in the middle of night to acquire. Have at it in our forums.

Many black drive icons have one common trait: they’re painted with a glossy finish. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing— “slick” icons have their place in this Aqua customization world too— but I’ve always thought it would be nice to see some high-quality, brushed aluminum black for a change.
Convenient, then, that Marcelo Marfil has updated his set Aluminix Drives set, giving them that noisy texture I’ve always wanted. The nine icons incorporate silver and black (coincidentally, my two favorite hardware colors) and blend them together just splendidly, with a purple light that makes the front look wicked cool at larger resolutions. The glyphs are also unusually sharp, adding just a touch of gloss to keep it from getting too bland. It’s one of those sets that makes me wish I had folders of the same style, but alas. Marfil’s icons are available in the forums.

There is something unbearably enticing about Apple’s industrial designs that inspires so many designers to create iconized versions of them, from AirPort base stations to MacBook Pros. A quick search of the forum reveals many have taken a crack at capturing the nuanced elegance of these machines. With the release of The Pro. MacBook Pro by forum member .Parth, we can add one more beautifully detailed icon to the list. Meticulously crafted at a 1024X1024 working resolution, some detail may have been lost to the visible eye at 512×512, but I’m convinced that on some level you can “feel” those tiny elements.

The 1988 movie was god-awful or wonderful, in that god-awful sort of way depending on who you ask. Blob 2.0 Snow Leopard is an entirely more pleasant experience, and a sequel of sorts to the equally wonderful Blob Interface, both by Martin Lexow. This release includes icons for an astonishing 105 different applications for those of you who like a little uniformity in their Dock.

Cyril Seillet has been working on an iconset for a long time. It’s pretty, it’s detailed, and it’s been slowly revealed— icon by icon— since the middle of March. Now that it’s nearly August, Seillet has released NOD2, a stunning iconset comprised of silver hard disks, hyper-detailed folders, and glowing blue highlights. He admits that some icons are currently missing (coming soon in an update), but as far as the current offering goes, I’d easily place it in the top tier of “high technology” system icons. NOD2 is available on deviantART, and I highly recommend watching the page until it becomes complete enough to apply to OS X (and so we can stop just staring at them in awe).
